Is it worth it to take out the time to build a website?

It’s 100 percent so, so, so worth it. I could not recommend it any higher. I think it is the most beneficial thing that I have done for my business, ever. So yes, do it!

What platform did you use?

So in terms of my actual website, that is hosted on Shopify. Which I recommend if you are using the website to just sell products in terms of being an online shop rather than a gallery kind of website where you are displaying things that are not necessarily for sale. So yes, Shopify is amazing in terms of allowing people to add products to their cart and check out and it makes it really seamless and easy. And to have a website you also need a domain name and my domain I got from Go Daddy and you just pay a yearly subscription I think and that gives you access to that domain.

Shopify is easy to use and a drag and drop style platform and you don’t have to know code, is that accurate?

Yes, exactly. So you choose from a series of themes and then you can customize that theme. You can choose your own colors. You can put your pictures in. You can add text and in that way it is extremely user friendly. I don’t have any background in technology or website building and I use it just fine.

Is it important to have multiple trusted ways to pay on your website?

I think it just gives people more options and they can then use whatever they like. I think it’s always nicer to have options and pay in a way that’s best for the customer.  So I think it is useful to have lots of different payment alternatives.

What kind of program is set up to help with shipping costs and labels?

That’s a really good question because at the beginning I took a long time to figure this out. So basically through Shopify you can get things called apps and you download those onto your page and then it automates things for you.  so you can get an app that is for Australia Post which is the shipping that I use, and then that automatically calculates the shipping costs based on the weight of the item and where the person is when they go to check out. Then the labeling, because I use Australia Post, it automatically imports the labels into their website and then I just print them off from there.

How much time a week do you think having a website saves you compared to doing direct sales?

I don’t know if I could directly quantify it because things are really different now compared to when I was just selling through Instagram. I think when I was just posting things and getting messages about them I maybe had like not even a thousand followers yet and now I have more than 36 thousand. So I don’t think I could quantify the difference because my growth as a business has outweighed it. But if I was still selling directly I would be spending all day every day managing those messages. It would be completely unmanageable.
