How long, typically speaking, does it take for you to make a piece?
About two days and I do it for more than 6 or 7 hours per day for the actual modeling and sculpting. So it is about 12-15 hours.
When you start the week, do you have a schedule for the week? a making calendar?
Yes, because if I did not have an calendar or agenda I would stand in the middle of the room and wait for the inspiration. So it is easier with an agenda.
Do you have self-imposed deadlines for yourself? Sometimes it’s commission work so of course you would have deadlines for that but when you are making for yourself do you make deadlines for your work?
Yeah, I am trying to do so because otherwise I think that I don’t even start the work. So for me it is much easier to see where I have to finish it.
When you go to apply your surface colors is that on bisqueware or is that on greenware?
I prefer to do it on greenware.
What temperature do you bring your work to? In terms of cone?
I think it is 06
So it is more like a low fire? Earthenware.
Yes.
When you ship your work around the world do you ever have breakage or loss in the shipping process?
Never. So far I am really lucky. I think there was one when I sent it to a gallery in the states. That was the only one but now I have discovered this absolutely magical cushions that just hug your work around and just protect your work from all sides. I recommend it to every artist, to every ceramicist. It’s called Instapak. It’s been a lifesaver.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not making art?
Just walking and exploring the city. Paris or other cities. I like to see new places.
