What are the advantages of using Cricket versus scissors and paper?
Well the Cricket is a lot faster and more precise. The Cricket can cut little tiny things that would be really, really difficult to cut with scissors.
What material do you use?
I have used regular computer paper. I use vinyl, a couple different types of vinyl. I have used sheets of decal paper. I have used craft foam in my Cricket before.
Which one works better for the long term?
Well, when I was working with porcelain, I used a lot of paper and those are mainly single use stencils. But then when I switched over to this dark clay I switched over to this vinyl and you can use these vinyl stencils hundreds, even thousands of times. They don’t really wear out.
How much is a piece of equipment like that?
I bought mine over five years ago and I want to say it was around two hundred dollars. I know that there’s different models though. So I think that there is a higher one and more recent one and I also know there is a lower model too.
How does Procreate help you size a stencil?
Procreate doesn’t really size the stencil at all. I do all of that in the Cricket application. Procreate I just draw the image, and I export it as a jpeg. And then in the Cricket software I make it into a stencil. That might not be the best way to do it. I am not a Procreate guru but it works for me.
What is the application you use and do you have to add water to get it to a specific consistency.
So I don’t add water at all. I use these generic squeeze bottles that I got from Amazon. But I really like these fine point applicators that I also got from Amazon. I think you can get them from any art supply store. They have a needle in the cap so when you put the cap on it keep the applicator from getting clogged. I think it’s called Fine Point.
