How important was it for you to get that vague fear out of your mind and make it define specifically what you were afraid of?
There is always a little bit of that fear that is never defined, you do t know what it is, but it’s always bugging you. But there came a point where I found it helpful to define whatever that fear was for that day, or that hour, and turn that into a problem that I could solve, whether it was for that day or hour or week. I would just focus on that, and I noticed that alleviated a lot of fear.
Did you ever ask yourself the question what would cost you if you didn’t do it?
Oh yeah. A lot of times over the last months I weighed the fork in the road of if I went left and stayed where I was at. Do you stay in a decent career with a paycheck and it’s safe and secure or do you jump off the cliff and hope you land somewhere safe. Yeah, I weighed that a lot.
How important was it to have strong support around you with someone saying, You can do it! ?
One thousand percent important. I would not have done it without family and friends, artists, everyone I know around me was pushing me up to that edge. I had to be the one to take the final step and try to jump into this new area.
Is it more important to move ahead with bad steps or move ahead with perfect steps?
Definitely move ahead with bad steps. It’s kind of like throwing a pot. You’ve just got to get your hands dirty and get in the wheel and you’re going to be developing the skills even if you are failing every time. One day you are going to end up with a pot.
Does momentum help you move past road blocks?
Yeah, I think it gives you a little bit more energy to get up and over that road block , but you still have to get through that road block.
You’ve quit a secure job, you’ve started an insecure job, would you do it again?
Oh, every day. Every little decision that led to this point I would do over again the same exact way. It takes a lot of energy to get out of the hole of feeling stuck, but once you do, I’ve never felt more fulfillment with what I am doing.
