How do you stay motivated to continue to be a maker?

I stay motivated by always adding something creative to my production. So if I am making 50 ghost mugs in a day I will make a big vase or I will make a bowl or recently I made a sculpture of a monkey. So Something creative to add to the constant production.

I’m curious, do you ever struggle with burnout?

Yeah, for sure. Sometimes it is just a part of life and you just have to lay on the couch and watch TV for the day and tell yourself it’s going to be okay if you don’t go to the studio.

As you are relatively new to pottery do you ever struggle with imposter syndrome?

Oh, all the time. Like every day. (laughter) I have to look myself in the mirror and be like, You are going to be okay. You are a potter. You can do this.

What time of day is your favorite time of day to work?

Honestly, I am such a morning person, I really struggle getting out of bed but once I do I am at the studio. Sometimes I will leave at 6:30 in the morning. I just want to get it done and I want to make sure I have enough time in my day to do something creative and then after that hang out with friends or I don’t know, clean my room. Stuff like that.

Why do you think art is important to society in general? Why is it important to have something artistic in our lives?

I think it makes people happy. I think it makes people happy to create it and to receive it and I think that when you make pottery you are using both sides of your brain and it feels good and it feels meditative, at least to me. And I think it helps me a lot with being imperfect.
