Do you have a practice of down time ?

Yes, I do. It’s not the most intentional practice (laughter) but I do.

Tell me what that’s like for you.

It depends on the day.  I try and do yoga once a week and at the gym there’s a sauna, so I have sauna time and I kind of meditate in the sauna. So things like that help me. Some times I get to the end of the night and it’s Netflix and drinking tea and that’s my down time. So it varies for sure.

Is making sure you get enough sleep a big factor for you?

Oh yeah, definitely.

Did you have a time when you had to learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable?

I mean, I think I am practicing that every day. I’ve been in therapy for four years now and that’s been immensely helpful as well in terms of giving me more tools and strategies for coping, surviving, thriving.

Does support from friends and family in your community or even long distance, does that play a big role for you?

Oh absolutely. Yeah, it’s super critical. I am an introvert so I definitely tend to spend a lot of time by myself and can sometimes kind of feel a little isolated as a result so I have to be very intentional about reaching out to people, but yeah I am very fortunate to have supportive family and partner and friends so when I do reach out there is someone there. I am very lucky.

Does building systems or schedules or lists, does that bring a sense of encouragement to the anxiety…in other words, I see a path to follow by doing lists?

Yes. I am a huge list maker so I usually have multiple lists going. Sometimes that can kind of not help because I see all the things that need to happen and get a little overwhelmed by it. But then that’s where the multiple lists come in, you break it down, this one thing that seems huge and overwhelming actually when it’s broken into all these steps I can accomplish it. And having routines, that’s really important as well for sure.

What is your favorite tool for making glazes?

Well I’ve got a few. I’ve got my Triple Beam balance because I am old school, for weighing and measuring. And then the other extremally critical tool that I have found is the sieve, the Talisman sieve, and they are so expensive but if you don’t have one it makes your life so much harder.
